Paris, 6th of April, 2022
On April 10, French citizens will vote in the presidential election. Volt will not support any specific candidate in this election. The motivation to participate in the vote remains low and threatens to de-legitimize our next government. Citizen participation is a way to make the priorities of citizens heard by the government as well as by parliament and all our elected officials.
This is why Volt is calling on all its members to cast their vote. Many crucial issues are at stake in this election; the place of France in Europe, the place of Europe in France and the energy question are issues that will affect France not only for the next five years but for decades to come.
The French have the least confidence in their political system of any European country; this confidence must be restored in order to propose a sustainable program and lasting solutions. The winner-takes-all presidential system calls for citizens to vote for the lesser evil, rather than a vote of conviction. With no room for proportional voting, a majority of the population is left unrepresented or in opposition. Volt does not wish to take sides in an election designed to represent only a minority of the population.
