Presidential elections 2022: On the road to the legislative elections

> Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected President of the Republic for a second five-year term. The French people did not vote for the best but for the least evil as demonstrated by the record abstention rates.
> The 2022 legislative elections will be of historic importance in representing all the political opinions that abstained from the presidential elections or that expressed themselves as a barrage.

Paris, 24th of April 2022

Democracy finally wins against extremism. Last night, Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic for a second five-year term. Although we have avoided the worst, we must continue the resistance and redouble our efforts to ensure that ecology, inclusiveness and democracy have a prominent place in this five-year term.

The high abstention rate in the 2022 presidential election reveals a weariness towards traditional political parties. Moreover, the presidential institution is weakened, due to low popular representation and support partly by default for the outgoing president.

Volt believes that a democracy must strive to be representative and, while we congratulate Emmanuel Macron on his second term in office, we would like to remind you that our democracy in France is very fragile and that, in order to evolve, we need a president for all the people, a representative National Assembly and a programme that ensures that no one is left behind at the beginning of a new five-year term.

To advance these ideas, Volt is standing for parliamentary elections to ensure an inclusive, ecologic and democratic debate that puts European integration at the heart of proposed solutions. We call on all French people who want a real renewal, more political diversity and concrete, sustainable solutions based on experience across Europe, to support our Volt project.
